  Honest fading a myth?

  is honest fading possible?.

  i've thought several times that if i had it to do over again, living in this age of jwd with all its online support and encouragement -- along with the huge resource of the internet -- that i'd have faded slowly instead of allowed the disfellowshipping because of apostasy.. on the other hand i wonder if that's all stupid speculation, wishfully thinking it would have prevented the cutting off and the shunning of the remaining family members, especially the children.. i know you'll correct me if i'm wrong on the following premise but i suspect if a person is honest, he cannot prevent the disfellowshipping -- in a great many cases.

  i believe that it all depends on the vigilance of the local elders and how penetrating they are in their questions, and how perceptive they are with your answers during sheparding calls.. "um ... brother, we've missed your presence at the meetings and in the field ministry and we're certainly here to help you, but wonder if you've actually lost your faith that jehovah's earthly organization is the correct one.

  There appears to be a double standard and rules ("guidelines" and "suggestions") that are applied differently from congregation to congregation. After 7 years of fading, Rocky was DF'd but I haven't been, although I am being shunned by family and congregation as if I were DF'd. We tried to lay low as long as possible because of the consequences (obligatory shunning by family members). But the brother who ran interference with the elders for us died suddenly so the elder(s) with a vendetta against Rocky were free to come after him, which they did. He was DF'd in June, no letter, no phone call. I learned of it through the family grapevine.

  As for the children, we cold turkey stopped going to the meetings. Our children were 15 and 16 at the time. They were first hand observers of hypocrisy, double standards, and pharisaical elders. The oldest continued for a few months to drive herself to the KH, but was received coolly. It didn't take long for some heart to heart discussions to occur. Neither of our children have pursued a life with JWs.

  Bottom line - there is no easy way to leave. It's much like the line in the song Hotel California: You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!

  Is this swearing, to a JW?

  saying "jesus" or "judas priest", as when watching a football game and a call or play is bad?

  my jw husband does this frequently.. .

  would this be considered swearing by the average witness?.

  I was reproved for using "what a turkey." Also very offensive is "that sucks." But a lot of JWs I knew couldn't stop using "gosh, golly, gee whiz, lordy."

  WT Prays for LA Storm victims

  this morning at brooklyn bethel, patterson and wt farms the governing body offered a prayer in behalf of all of the citizens in the la area.

  that jehovah provide the needed protection for all citizens who will be impacted.. .

  the gb prayed that those who would be risking their lives, such as essential personeel will have the needed strength to help all citizens.. .

  If anyone is thinking of giving to charities to help victims of Katrina, the Better Business Bureau has a list of organizations that carry their seal of approval.

  Of course, not all charities on their list have a direct link to providing relief for hurricane victims, but there are some that do.

  You will notice WTBTS and JWs missing from their list.

  It is so sad that there are people who would take advantage of a disaster to prey upon others, whether it be financially, emotionally, or spiritually. (I can hear my sister-in-law already, "It's the Great Tribulation...." Every disaster since the Gulf War to 9/11 - it's all the Great Tribulation!)

  I guess I'll have to speak about the other Washington, Eastern Washington. Wal-Mart has arrived in Spokane - one Super Store, and two regular Wal Marts. There are Super WMs in Colville, Moses Lake, Ephrata, Omak, Yakima, Kennewick. There are also regular Wal Marts in Richland, Pasco, Wenatchee and Walla Walla. Students attending Washington State University in Pullman have only to drive a short 7 miles to Moscow, ID to find a WM in that area.

  WM has had a visible economic effect on the small businesses in the towns close to these cities. WM is a blessing and a bane - anyone on a limited income (or just trying to stretch their dollars) is drawn to their low prices. But as many here have voiced, they have less than honorable business practices. I am glad that the closest WM is just far enough away (about 40 miles) that I am not tempted to run there for every little thing, although I am guilty of being a patron. Who can resist a bargain? It is so painful to have such a social conscience!

  My youngest also avoids Target, as she heard they made contributions to George W.'s presidential campaign.

  my google wasn't much help.. does the society yet recognize dna, a rape kit, etc., as evidence that could supplant a "second witness" which they have always insisted on?.

  Don't forget, all of this is subject to interpretation by the local BOE. In Rocky's case, he was DF'd on the word of two - one was a JW, the other was not.

  Superstitious JW Nonsense

  one of my jw relatives was relating to me another one of their superstitious nonsense stories designed to demonize every damn thing that doesn't fall into an approved wt list.

  she was telling me about a her friend, who upon cleaning a relatives house, found a voodoo doll with a prayer to demons written on paper that it took an hour to burn.

  she also related to me how in the hour it took to burn the demon paper prayer, everyone around them getting sick and falling into convulsions.. i guess she was a little perturbed that i was .

  Ever since I can remember I have been troubled by night terrors, "screaming and arousal from sleep, with no memory of a frightening dream except perhaps a frightening image." I haven't had one for several years, almost coinciding with the timing of our leaving close association with JWs. When I first moved away from home at age 19, one of my roommates had a dream that something was trying to kill me. Coincidentally, I had a night terror on that same night. We had the elders visit us and they convinced us that we had invited a demon into our home. So we threw out a bunch of stuff - a picture given to my roommate from a street musician, an Earth, Wind, and Fire album (because the cover had an Egyption symbol on the cover), and a few other things (too long ago to remember). They prayed for us, counseled us to watch our association, blah, blah, blah...

  Rocky and I decided that the power of suggestion is extremely strong and the brainwashed JW mind is ripe to fester these demonic inspired ideas. BTW, my night terrors have decreased in number since leaving the WT organization and have not had one for at least 5 years.
